Ingredients for the Salmon and Cream Cheese Pate

  • 2 large salmon fillets

  • 8 oz./ 225g cream cheese

  • 2 lemons

  • ¼ cucumber, finely diced

  • 2tbsp chopped chives

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions: How to Make Salmon Pate with Cream Cheese

  • Preheat the oven to 200C.
  • Put the salmon fillets on a baking tray, season with salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon juice, and cover with foil.
  • Put the salmon in the oven, and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the salmon is cooked through but translucent.
  • Lave the salmon fillets to cool for five minutes, then flake them into a mixing bowl.
  • Squeeze in the juice of one lemon.
  • Next, add the cream cheese to the bowl.
  • Add the diced cucumber to the other ingredients.
  • Grind a generous amount of black pepper over the ingredients in the bowl.
  • Use a spoon to mix all the ingredients.
  • Put the mixture into a clean bowl or divide the mixture into four ramekins if you are serving individual portions.
  • Chill the pate in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving.
  • Before serving, slice the other lemon into quarters and add one piece to each of the ramekins.
  • Serve the salmon pate with cream cheese and cucumber with your favourite bread or toast. You can also add a salad garnish if you wish.

Additional Tips

  • Instead of cream cheese, you can use fromage frais or crème fraiche. However, it will have a looser consistency.
  • You can also make the pate using raw smoked salmon if you wish.
  • To save time, you can buy ready-cooked salmon and skip the first four steps in the recipe.
  • Try adding some herbs, such as chives or tarragon, for extra flavour.
